I left half this baluster mug unglazed because I love the warm red clay under my favorite tan glaze. Because it is a high-fired stoneware it is waterproof in spite of the partial glaze. During the Medieval era rather than hold a mug by the handle it was more common to hold a mug around the belly and hang it up by the handle. I make the handles well-balanced so they are comfortable to hold by the handle if the uses wants to, but they can be held around the belly and hung on the wall too if wished.
