Pipkin

Tripod pipkins seem to be about the favorite cooking pot of authentic SCA cooks. My pipkins have the strong rounded shapes I love throwing. The lids are made with pulled loop handles so the cook can check on the contents by lifting it with the end of a wooden spoon if the coals are quite hot. The thrown "spout" handle is due to the requests my customers; the interior air space helps insulate the handle for grasp more efficiently than solid ceramic. The sturdy size of the handle is comfortable for holding and balances the weight of the body of the pipkin. The interior of these pots are glazed for ease of cleaning. Sizes range from 2 cups capacity for sauces up to 3 quarts. for a hearty carbonade.
